Narciso is a suspension lamp, consisting of a steel cable and a series of metal bodies.
The lamp utilises the reflection and the different temperature of the light sources to create a very special effect, which forms on the wall of the moving rays.
Moodboard
The brief of the laboratory was to experiment with light, then try, through the use of different types of light and materials, to create something new that could excite the user.

Experiments with the light of the Studio Formafantasma. Spazio Krizia, 2017.
Different sources of light

The lamp
The final phase, on the other hand, envisaged transforming the lighting effect we had experienced into an industrial object. So we designed a lamp that reproduced the desired effect, but at the same time was elegant, using less material that was possible, with a steel cable as a structural part.

Experimentation
During the first phase, we analyzed different types of lamps and materials on the market. After that, we went to the experimental phase, where, through the use of mirrors, LEDs and other materials we realize different lighting effects.
The form
Narciso has an extremely simple form; it is composed of a mirror surface and an assortment of cylindrical bodies of various sizes fixed with metric screws to a thin steel cable connected to the ceiling.

Prototype
The realization of the prototype has been very long and stimulating, in fact, there have been many phases in which we have had to experiment and solve various problems related to the use of materials hard to work with and the electronic part. The bodies are all made of steel, the main part, where the light source is inserted, was made by working a piece of steel with a CNC machine. The electronic components and welds were all made within the polytechnic laboratory, while the painting was done with paints provided by an external professional.

DOUTDESIGN EXIBITHION
Narciso was selected to be exhibited at the Milan Design Week, during the doutdesign exhibition held in the former convent of San Vittore in Zona Sant’Ambrogio. For the exhibition, we have created a wooden supporting structure, which was aesthetically beautiful and functional, but that did not take the scene to the lamp. The structure is very large, almost 3 meters high and about 4 meters long, to simulate the height of a normal ceiling while maintaining a certain stability.
